The issue of health literacy has moved to the forefront of the medical field. Health literacy affects our ability to understand and process information regarding health, including following instructions prior to or following a medical procedure and understanding the treatment options provided by healthcare professionals. It has no geographic, economic or educational boundaries.
This conference will allow attendees to:
- Understand health literacy and how it impacts health outcomes
- List methods to improve communication with patients and reduce health disparities
- Identify patients with limited literacy skills
- Practice ways to improve communication with patients and motivate change
- Understand the concept of healthcare for the whole patient
- Identify and break motivation barriers of depressed patients
- Teach other medical professionals concepts from the conference
Attendees of this conference will have the opportunity to participate in the American Medical Association's "Train the Trainer" series.
