KNOXVILLE – Using a platform that is among the most recognized and meaningful to its alumni, the University of Tennessee on Friday thanked Sen. Jamie Woodson for her advocacy and support for public higher education.

“Thank you Jamie” was painted on the iconic Rock on the Knoxville campus, from which Woodson is a two-time graduate.

After 14 years as a legislator, Woodson plans to step down when the current legislative session adjourns. Her service is being honored by her colleagues in the General Assembly, and University officials described Friday’s message as the ultimate recognition from Woodson’s alma mater.

“Sen. Woodson has been a champion for all of higher education, and the University of Tennessee is grateful for her leadership,” said UT President Joe DiPietro. “Since she is a double alumna, we thought the Rock was a great place to say thank you.”

Woodson received both bachelor’s and law degrees from UT Knoxville. As a UT graduating senior, she was named a “Torchbearer,” the highest honor an undergraduate may receive from the University.
