Grant to Fund Youth Mental Health Programs Research

The Children's Mental Health Services Research Center in the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has received a $1,483,573 grant from the W.T. Grant Foundation to fund research on mental health programs which serve at-risk youth. The UT center will collaborate with the Helen Ross McNabb Center in Knoxville to conduct the three-year study.

UT Culinary Institute Graduates Inaugural Class on Aug. 18

A caterer, college student, high school teacher, lawyer and physical therapist are among the graduates of the inaugural class of the Culinary Institute at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A graduation ceremony for the 16 members of the first class will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the UT Visitors Center. The graduates will don their white chef hats and white coats for the ceremony.

UT's Incoming Freshmen Set New Academic Record; Bolstered Scholarship Programs Increase Access

For the fifth year in a row, incoming freshmen at UT Knoxville have set an academic record. Students will move in on Saturday; classes begin on Aug. 20. The class of 2012 -- expected to be about 4,200 strong -- arrives on campus with an average core GPA of 3.76 and a 26.6 average ACT score. Both scores are the highest ever for an entering class.

Williams Awarded Inaugural Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair
