Policy on Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs

Approved By The UT Board Of Trustees At Its Meeting On 21 June, 2000

To qualify as a University of Tennessee Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program, the following minimum criteria must be met:

1. The certificate must be an officially sanctioned and recorded documentation of satisfactory performance in a planned program of graduate-level study.
   • “officially sanctioned and recorded” means that the certificate is awarded and signed by the campus Chancellor/institute Vice President; that a permanent record is recorded and maintained by the appropriate campus/institute Registrar’s office; and that the certificate is listed in the appropriate campus/institute catalog.
   • “satisfactory performance” means that the student’s performance has met the minimum qualitative and quantitative requirements for the granting of the certificate.
   • “planned program of graduate-level study” means (a) that the program for which the certificate is awarded has been approved by the appropriate departmental, college, and university faculty and administrative bodies for graduate education, and (b) that it is recognized by the UT Board of Trustees by being listed in the annual Comprehensive Listing of University of Tennessee Academic Programs.
2. The duration of the program must be a minimum of nine (9) semester hours of graduate-level academic credit courses or the equivalent thereof, including approved practica, internships, clinical experiences, etc.
3. The program personnel must be either University of Tennessee regular or adjunct faculty or properly qualified persons specifically approved to participate in the post-baccalaureate certificate program.
