Overview of Template

Like the previous version of the template, the "new look" is essentially divided into three sections: a header, a content area, and a footer.

The following is an explanation of the requirements issued by the Office of Creative Services. Individual offices and units may establish additional design requirements of their own.

Header

The header is everything from the top of the page to the bottom of the three horizontal lines that separate the header from the content.

You should not change the design of the header. This combination of the University of Tennessee wordmark and brand icon has been approved throughout the chain of command.

You should, however, change the text that appears within the title tag to reflect the content of each and every page.

Content

The only mandate for the content area (everything between the set of three horizontal lines near the top of the page and their reappearance near the bottom of the page is that you stay within the fixed width of 960 pixels. Everything else is up for grabs. The 960 pixesl width was arrived at after extensive monitoring of web traffic over the last year and line length research readability of online text.

Please post contact information on your home page, including a mailing address, phone/fax numbers, and an email contact.

The templates that we provide use a 220 pixel left-column menu to align with the left side of the wordmark above — and we suggest that you do the same — but even that is not required.

Footer

The styling of the footer is defined by the primary style sheet (07-system.css), which you should have no reason to edit. However, you should add your own office contact information.
